WARREN DU PREEZ & NICK THORNTON JONES

Warren Du Preez & Nick Thornton Jones are regarded as two of the most influential photographers in the creative industry to date. Their contemporary works range from fashion through to music & advertising. Their original pieces stem from their ability to experiment within visual communication, resulting in a distinctive style. The works of W&N are often dreamlike and surreal, taking digital manipulation to another level with a term they call 'hypervisuality'.
The works of W&N have appeared in numerous editorials, such as I-D, V magazine, Dazed & Confused, Numero and more.
Along with their contemporary image making skills, W&N have also worked within advertising, with directing commercials for Pierre Cardin & BMW.

DANNY SANGRA

Central Saint Martins Graduate Danny Sangra is an illustrator from london who first came to my attention a few years back with his unique flyer designs and T-shirt art. Known for his more abstract take on illustration, sangra's work is recognised by its geometric pattern nature.
Danny Sangra has close links with fashion, as he created his own brand 'A Minutes Silence', and has since collaborated with Katie Hillier with print designs for Marc by Marc Jacobs. A man of many talents, Danny Sangra is also the brains behind the Goldielocks- 'Smash Grab' Video.

A member of creative collective 'Peep Show', Chrissie MacDonald has made her mark within the world of Illustration. The Peep show team is 10 strong, and renown as the leading practioners in illustration, fashion, mixed media and more. Their individual skills have allowed them to build up a fruitful client list, including big names such as Harvey Nichols, Levi & Nike.
Peep show member and illustrator Chrissie MacDonald caught my eye with her unique and playful pieces. MacDonalds work embodies a slightly 80s feel to it, using paper cut outs and an abundance of colour to create an array of patterns and shapes. The Macdonald client list includes Dazed & Confused, Kate Nash (Album art) & Wonderland Magazine.

Kehinde Wiley

Hip-hop and street credibility has been brought to the world of art by none other than Kahinde Wiley. Since 2001, Wiley's portraits of rappers and urban characters have not only changed the face of portraiture, but also added a unique twist on the 'classic' portrait.
Wiley's most recent work, 'The World Stage', see's him painting young black subjects from around the world (Africa & China).

IDEA design

Clean design.

I recently came across the 'IDEA' design collective. A japanese based company that supports a range of designers, supporting their creative visions as they come to life. The overall look of the IDEA design collection is minimal, sleek and different. Just imagine graphic design being brought to life, which is exactly what the 'icon watch' does, having being inspired by a computer icon (designed by & design).

Taiyō Matsumoto- TEKKONKINKREET

TekkonKinkreet (meaning reinforced concrete) was originally a manga comic created by artist Taiyo Matsumoto. The comic was adapted into an anime in late 2006, and hence created a buzz and a great amount of recognition for Matsumoto.
TekkonKinkreet is set in 'Treasure Town', a rough around the edges city which is watched over by the characters 'Black and white'. The two orphans, renown for their amazing fight scenes, go together like 'ying and yang'. White is naive and playful, whereas Black is wiser and the moodier of the two.

The style, the colours, the detail.

ART OF MUSIC EXHIBITION (2008)

This interested me from both a content and curational perspective. The idea of the exhibition was the allow artist to visual expressed their personal interpretations of music. Similar with this is the idea surround my work and the exhibition, in how i interpret the humorous aspects of the world around me and apply this to my work. The exhibition as a whole is also our own personal interpretations of the world.

The way in which the work is presented also inspired me with ideas towards how my work could be displayed in the exhibition.
