David Shriggers

I came across Shrigley after i had already started my initial drawings. At the time my style was very particular, but after seeing Shrigley's work i began to branch out more and try out different techniques (with style of the text with drawings), as well as experimenting with text based paintings. The humorous aspect of Shrigleys work also had a great influence on my work, combined with illustrator Elle Teague's take on humour within art; the notion of the humourous, one off statement. I found it reassuring to see Shrigley's freehand technique, as i also use this with my drawings (starting with the initial pencil outline, brought together with a simple black ink outline, then filled with colour which usually overlaps the lines). I use this technique as it comes in tune with the freehand/quick nature of my drawings.
