Liam Scully- I was mainly inspired by the work of Liam Scully in regards to my drawings and painting. I like the idea of art possessing little meaning, no deep thought and no need for analysis, just purely art for arts sake. My drawings are inspired by snippets of overheard conversations, or statements that humour me, and thus inspire me to illustrate them. There is no deeper meaning than that, and as far as meaning goes, there is no meaning in that alone. I get this feeling from some works produced by Liam Scully, such as the ‘Abstraction’ series; a series of abstract, yet childlike pieces. As stated by Scully, this series attempts ‘to join the realm of serious abstract painting and drawing’, ‘they poke fun at the sun yet embrace it as a cultural icon’. I’m not against serious art, I embrace it as my inspiration, yet my work is far from serious and this is what I hope to portray; humour in art.
